Our New Honorary Fellow

Dear All,

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – CIArb has awarded Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo the status of Honorary Fellow, acknowledging the international eminence of our Patron.

As a career diplomat Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo was head of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry’s Dispute Settlement Unit and chief litigator in several WTO disputes. In 2013, Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo was elected Director General of the WTO in which capacity he championed free trade, multilateralism and fully embraced all democratic values we stand for.

We are extremely proud of our Patron’s achievements in those 23 years which one way or another were devoted to the WTO. It is a true privilege to have Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo as an Honorary Fellow of our Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

As you probably know, Ambassador Azevêdo decided to leave the WTO this year and join a senior position at Pepsico. We wish him well in his new endeavours and strongly encourage our Fellows, Members and Associates to join the ICC Conference on International Arbitration to take place in Miami, 09-13 November, where our Patron will feature as a keynote speaker.

Yours,
CIArb Brazil Branch Committee Members
