Lawyer from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and Master in Real Estate Consulting from the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona. He has worked in the Real Estate and Arbitration departments at Baker & Mckenzie in Barcelona (Spain) and is currently a Partner at Huanco Abogados. He works as an arbitrator and lawyer in arbitrations in public and private contracts, and in processes of execution and annulment of arbitral awards.

In addition, he is a member of the Spanish Arbitration Club (CEA) and the Young International Arbitration Group (London). He has been Technical Secretary and Advisor of the Working Group that was responsible for proposing improvements to the Civil Code designated by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. He is a professor of Real Estate, Obligations, Contracts and Arbitration at the Faculties of Law of the UPC and Universidad del Pacífico, and in the Master; Degree in Civil and Commercial Law of the UNMSM.

A UK-qualified and US-based lawyer, Juliya Arbisman has a broad international law practice with a focus on complex jurisdictions (Africa, Middle East and CIS), complex industries (mining and energy), and complex claims (parallel criminal-civil proceedings). Juliya is experienced in serving as lead counsel in international arbitrations under the LCIA, ICC, ICDR, SCC, AAA, SIAC, Swiss Chamber, PCA, ICSID and ad hoc rules. She represents clients in a number of court-based applications regarding arbitration (in the UK and elsewhere), including injunctions, set-aside claims, and enforcement proceedings.

Juliya has particular experience in mining and energy sector cases involving both public and private projects that ranged in value from $100m to $7bn. She has worked on some of the largest ever claims under the Energy Charter Treaty, many of which concerned the former CIS countries. Juliya holds a Non-Executive Director position in a mining advisory firm in London.

Juliya also has substantial experience on protection of property and fair process cases in international and regional courts in Europe, Africa and Americas. She has appeared in many proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights. She has co-counseled on claims at the UK Privy Council arising from Commonwealth jurisdictions. These
claims have ranged from judicial review over energy regulation, judicial review over declaration of marine protection area that had excluded an aboriginal population in the Indian Ocean, habeas corpus and other submissions invoking diplomatic and consularlaw.

Juliya joined Steptoe from a national law firm where she headed the International Practice and was a member of the executive committee. Juliya began her career in the international arbitration group of a major UK international law firm in London.

Maria Luiza is a Brazilian-qualified lawyer who works with strategic dispute resolution
and prevention, arbitration and contract management, with focus on the sectors of
infrastructure and construction.

Civil Engineer (Universidade da Amazônia – Brazil), with a Master’s Degree in Construction Management (Florida International University – USA) and a postgraduate degree in International Construction Law (University of the West of England, Bristol – UK). Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – MCIArb (UK) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – MRICS (UK). With extensive experience in Contract Administration, derived from more than 33 years of international experience working in more than 10 countries, combines knowledge of construction; preparation, analysis, negotiation, and administration of engineering and construction contracts, including preparation and analysis of claims; and dispute resolution techniques (negotiation, Dispute Boards, mediation and arbitration). Trained by the FIDIC Academy in FIDIC Contracts.
